Auditions

Even with the downturn that many are experiencing in our industry, which is reflected in the rest of the economy, the auditions seems to continue to come through from the many avenues many of us enjoy.  Where do your auditions come from?  Have you noticed them continuing to be strong?  Or have some dried up?

In future entries into my blog, I'll list what auditions I am receiving from my various agents, agencies, direct clients and P2P sites.

The majority of my auditions come from my agents at Studio Center. I usually get from 3 - 10 daily. Additionally, I'm signed with Voices.com and I find I need to jump on them right away in order to be considered. However, may I point out that the last 2 jobs I did get from Voices, I was auditioner #56 out of 101 and #15 out of 85.

I think the best rule of thumb to remember is to follow their requested needs to the letter and be one of the first 50 to be considered.

If they state they need it "today", or something seems a bit fishy, ALWAYS watermark your audition or give them only a portion of their requested script to be safe. My watermark consists of a disclaimer stating that these watermark is for audition purposes only and will be removed for the final audio. I then run a ticking clock under my entire read, basically making it useless for any type of usage if it were stolen.

Other tricks include changing phone numbers or changing the clients name to Company ABC. However, many potential clients may want to hear how you say their name and that's a quick way to lose them too.

Protect your voice work. Only you can prevent unauthorized voices from hitting the air.

More later on this important facet of our business.
